Authoritarian parenting style is described as being strict and having a lot of structure for the child, but with little communication to the child about why the rules are in place. There is typically no discussion about what the child wants, he is expected to follow the parent's rules without questioning them. Authoritarian parenting is often associated with force and punishment when the child disobeys, as well as yelling at or degrading the child. These parents make decisions for their child and do not encourage independence. Authoritarian parents can also been seen as withholding their love or affection when children are not compliant.
Examples of phrases commonly used in authoritarian parenting would be,
"Because I said so!", "Do what I say!" or "Don't do that! Get over here
now!" Children who are raised with authoritarian parenting tend be characterized as having low self-esteem and being less independent. They can be angry and aggressive, and tend to do poorly in school.
